Platform independence
Evaluate an open-source target against the cost of application changes, operational skills and long-term maintenance. A licensing decision needs an engineering case.
DATABASE MIGRATION & MODERNIZATION
Database migration is a business-critical transition. ST Data Migra brings assessment, engineering and validation into one migration plan from legacy platforms to the next operating environment.
PostgreSQL
MySQLTHE BUSINESS CASE
A change of database platform affects application behavior, operating costs and service continuity. Assess these together before committing to a target architecture or migration schedule.

Evaluate an open-source target against the cost of application changes, operational skills and long-term maintenance. A licensing decision needs an engineering case.
Address aging versions and capacity constraints with a migration plan that accounts for integrations, scheduled jobs and recovery requirements.
Compare managed and self-managed deployment models against control, connectivity, resilience and the cost of running the workload.
Whether you are replacing a legacy engine, upgrading infrastructure or moving to the cloud, the right approach starts with application dependencies and business constraints.
Move critical databases with a defined path for compatibility, data reconciliation and controlled production cutover.

MIGRATION APPROACH
A migration plan needs explicit entry and exit criteria. Each phase builds the evidence needed to authorize the next, with technical and business owners aligned before production changes.
Map databases, integrations and business-critical transactions. Establish compatibility risks, a performance baseline and the permitted interruption window.
Dependency inventory, risk register and acceptance criteria
Prepare the target and migration scripts. Rehearse schema conversion and data movement in a representative environment; record duration and exceptions.
Target design, repeatable migration procedure and rehearsal findings
Reconcile source and target, test critical application journeys and review performance. Confirm go/no-go authority, rollback triggers and the change window.
Validation evidence, approved cutover runbook and recovery procedure
Monitor the agreed operating indicators after transition. Resolve exceptions and transfer configuration, recovery procedures and support responsibilities.
Operational runbook, issue register and handover acceptance
Agree on the evidence required to accept the target environment. The depth of testing follows the workload, its criticality and the approved project scope.

Reconcile record counts, selected values and business totals at an agreed consistency point. Track discrepancies to resolution rather than treating a completed transfer as acceptance.
Compare representative transactions and batch jobs with the source baseline. Evaluate response time, throughput and concurrency against agreed thresholds.
Review backup, restore, monitoring and access controls. Define how failures are detected, who can authorize recovery and when the rollback window closes.
ACCEPTANCE FRAMEWORK
| Control area | Evidence for review |
|---|---|
| Compatibility | Resolved conversion exceptions and application regression results. |
| Data reconciliation | Source-to-target checks, exception ownership and resolution status. |
| Service performance | Workload measurements compared with the approved baseline. |
| Cutover & recovery | Rehearsed sequence, responsibilities, decision points and rollback conditions. |
Our core platforms are Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MySQL. Assessment establishes the versions, workloads and migration scope for each project.
Downtime depends on the source and target, data volume, change rate and application constraints. The migration plan should define an acceptable downtime window, RPO, RTO and rollback criteria. We do not make a blanket zero-downtime promise.
Define reconciliation at a consistent point in time: row counts, selected values, aggregates and business-critical records. Record exceptions and their resolution. Application regression and workload performance are reviewed separately; data accuracy alone does not establish production readiness.
AI-assisted assessment, documentation, SQL analysis and validation can support engineering work. Engineers review the outputs; AI does not replace testing or approval.
A database inventory, versions, approximate data volumes, dependencies, target requirements and downtime constraints provide a useful starting point. Do not share production credentials or sensitive data in an initial enquiry.
Data volume is only one factor. Engine compatibility, stored code, integration dependencies, change rate, test coverage and the allowed cutover window affect migration effort. An assessment identifies these constraints before a schedule or commercial scope is agreed.

Start with the source platforms, application dependencies and operating constraints. Use the assessment to establish a defensible scope, target architecture and acceptance plan.
